LEHIGH CEMENT COMPANY – PIER K, BROOKLYN NAVY YARD, Brooklyn, NY.
Lehigh Cement Company asked Nomad Architecture, in collaboration with Interim Design, to explore options to enhance the physical and aesthetic quality of their Cement Distribution Terminal located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
The design proposes five concepts:
- Emphasize the site’s marine and industrial waterfront character and heritage.
- Use paving, planters, sculptures, etc. to showcase Lehigh’s various cement products.
- Create a native species meadow at the unused end of the pier.
- Employ photovoltaic panels and other high-profile sustainable design features to emphasize Lehigh’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
