Nomad Architecture's Mobile Office

This project completely renovates a 1947 Aircraft Products camper trailer for use as Nomad’s field office. The trailer's frame, skin and interior furnishings were originally manufactured of aluminum salvaged from surplus WWII aircraft.

What started out as a simple fix-up turned into a multi-year total gut renovation. All interior finishes are either refinished or new. Insulation was added, new windows installed, etc.

The mobile office is an experiment: to create a totally self-sufficient living unit. A 300-watt Unisolar photovoltaic array and a 368 amp hours battery produce electricity. Cooking is provided by a rocket stove burning gathered wood, and a solar oven. Rainwater is harvested from a fabric awning, filtered and stored in a tank below the couch. Hot water is provided by a solar shower bag. We are still working on how to provide space heating.
