PRIVATE RESIDENCE, DECATUR, GA. 2012
Back in 1999, Nomad Architecture designed the renovation of the kitchen and living room of this 1950s era ranch house. Now we are designing a second phase that renovates the rest of the existing house and adds a 980 sq. ft. addition in the rear yard. The addition has two wings; one adds a master bedroom and bath. The second provides a guestroom and family room. These two wings create C shaped plan around a protected outdoor garden patio.

The design retains the ranch’s original street front appearance. The addition is an understated contemporary reinterpretation of the 1950’s “modern” style of the original. The interior has a modern, open plan and a minimal pallet of natural materials and finishes. The main living spaces look out onto the outdoor garden patio.

This project adds insulation, replaces all windows, seals the envelop, etc. It adds Ductless mini split heat pumps and heat recovery ventilators for HVAC and a tankless water heater. The overall energy consumption for the renovated house should be significantly less than that of the smaller original house.

Currently under construction.
